TUSCANY

Tuscany is surely one of the most beautiful viticultural regions in the world.  Her rolling hills reveal and conceal villas and castles that can date to medieval times.  On the slopes, verdant rows of vines skirt the heights crowned by these lavish works of architecture from an era of the past.

In Tuscany, the Sangiovese grape and all of its clones reign as king.  This noble varietal is the core of some of the best red wines made in italy.  Chianti, of course, is the most well known wine to be made with Sangiovese.  however, other areas within Tuscany also produce world class wine from this grape.  Brunello di Montalcino has had a great reputation for some time now, and some lesser known wines are now coming into play, such as Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Morellino di Scansano.  Tuscany also produces a white wine of note from the hill top town of San Gimignano called Vernaccia.

The Sangiovese grape is a grape that expresses "terra'.  Hence, a wine from one estate can taste dramatically different from another, even if they're next door neighbors.  Wine making techniques in the vineyard and cellar can also allow for differences in the wine.  For us, we have developed relationships with many of the estates and the families involved in them that are represented on our wine list.  We hope you enjoy these fruits of the Tuscan hillsides as you enjoy the foods we serve them with.  Here are links to the Tuscan winery websites where you can find more information about their wines, land and families.  Divertiti!
